We’re proud to be Arkansas’ Electrical Safety Experts!
Whether you built your home from the ground up or found the perfect “new to you” home after a lengthy search, you owe it to yourself and your family to ensure it’s both functional and safe. Older homes typically have a few safety issues that must be addressed to ensure they’re “move-in ready,” and homes that were constructed more recently also often need a few safety upgrades. Whatever your situation may be, our team at Gary Houston Electric is here to help!
We’ve been offering trusted electrical service in Little Rock since 1978, and we’re always a phone call away when you have any electrical safety questions. We strongly recommend having your home wiring professionally inspected every 25 years or sooner if your home circuit breakers trip frequently. Our seasoned residential electricians will ensure that your home meets today’s safety standards, and we also love helping Arkansas homeowners find ways to lower their energy bills! Here are a few easy ways to prevent electrical emergencies at home:
Get rid of damaged or frayed extension cords. Extension cords, chargers, and AC adapters are inexpensive enough to replace once they get damaged, and it’s a small price to pay for electrical safety!
Avoid overloading outlets. If your home was constructed before 1969, it’s easy and inexpensive to replace the rest of your two-pronged outlets with grounded outlets. Be sure to also call an electrician right away if you have any nonfunctional outlets or light switches in your home, especially if they’re buzzing or warm to the touch. It’s also a good bet you could use plenty of extra outlets in your living room and home office. Newer outlets include built-in surge protection for your electronics and even USB plug-ins for your smartphones and mobile devices!
Install GFCI outlets in your kitchen, bathroom, and outdoor outlets. Outlets with ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) offer an additional layer of protection against electrical overloads and are a must anywhere water is nearby. GFCIs can detect overloads as small as 4 or 5 milliamps and automatically trip within 1/10 of a second!
