Most people would agree that one of our greatest scientific innovations was developing the technology to deliver electricity to our homes. We often take it for granted (unless the power’s out), but the truth is it’s actually a pretty big part of our lives, What would life be like if we couldn’t flip a switch and turn on our lights, or recharge our laptops?

With a little common sense, using electricity is very safe, but what happens when you have an electrical emergency? When disaster strikes, our team at Gary Houston Electric Company should be your first call, We offer 24 hour emergency electrical services throughout central Arkansas, and we won’t leave until we’re sure you and your family are safe, The good news is when it comes to electrical safety, there are several easy and inexpensive things you can do to lower your risk of an accident. We encourage you to contact us at any time for a free household electrical safety evaluation, and we also offer a few general recommendations:

Replace outdated wiring – If you own an older home, you should make sure that the insulation on your wiring is still in good condition. If you find wiring that has brittle and cracked insulation (or cloth insulation), it should be replaced immediately.

Replace ungrounded plugs – Unless you own a brand new home, you probably still have a few of those pesky ungrounded plugs in your home. Replacement outlets sell for under a buck, and replacing them is an easy DIY project for even the clumsiest homeowners.

Use power strips safely – Some power strips offer surge protection, and some are simply a 6 way splitter. The most expensive power strip isn’t always the best one, but the rule of thumb is that you get typically get what you pay for. During this time of year, we all enjoy our space heaters, but don’t plug them into power strips.

Our team at GHEC is committed to keeping our community safe, and we take a lot of pride in our responsiveness to emergencies, The best defense against emergencies is a great offense, and we’re here to help you stop them dead in their tracks, Schedule your free consultation online here, or give us a call at (501) 375-8330.
