Whether the place you live is your first home, your “forever home,” or simply a temporary residence while you save up for your next big move, keeping your family safe and comfortable will always be your top priority! Our team at Gary Houston Electric is just a phone call away when you want to schedule an in-home electrical safety inspection, and we also love helping Arkansans find ways to lower their energy bills!

We’ve been offering trusted electrical service in Little Rock since 1978, and our experienced residential electricians will be happy to make specific safety recommendations for your home. Most electrical safety issues are relatively inexpensive to resolve, and routine preventive maintenance is usually all it takes to enjoy year-round peace of mind. Here are a few things to keep in mind when you start planning home repairs and upgrades:

Ensure your home wiring meets current safety standards-Home wiring should be inspected every 25 years or sooner if you recently purchased a “new to you” home. If you frequently encounter tripped circuit breakers, blown fuses, or flickering lights, call an electrician immediately to investigate the problem. Be sure also to repair or remove any nonfunctional light switches or electrical outlets, particularly if they buzz or are warm to the touch.

Install additional outlets throughout your home-If you’re relying too heavily on power strips, it’s easy and inexpensive to install additional electrical outlets with built-in surge protectors in high-traffic areas. You should also replace any remaining outdated two-prong outlets with grounded outlets and install ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlets in all of your kitchen, bathroom, and outdoor outlets.

Replace older home appliances now-It’s often a false economy to wait for older appliances to completely break down before replacing them. Hot water heaters normally last for 8-12 years and air conditioners normally last 10-15 years, but will often continue to function long after their anticipated operational lifespan with predictably less efficiency. Replacing an older unit enables you to take advantage of the most current safety and energy efficiency features, and you’ll be able to schedule the installation at a time of your choosing!

If you have any questions or would like to schedule an electrical safety inspection, contact us online or at 501-375-8330. We’re also always happy to give you a no-obligation quote for a KOHLER emergency backup generator.
