If you purchased an older home, you probably had a few home decor updates in mind when you made your offer. If you own a custom-built home, it’s also perfectly natural to grow weary of something you loved a few short years ago. But, when it’s time to make a change, be sure to include your home lighting design in your plans!

Gary Houston Electric has offered trusted residential electrical service in Little Rock since 1978, and we’re ready to help you keep your remodeling and home renovations on time and within budget. A new home lighting package offers you a lot of “bang” for your home improvement buck, and we’re a phone call away when you’d like to schedule a consultation with one of our professional lighting designers! Here are a few things to keep in mind when you start planning a new lighting design for your home:

Living rooms and common areas—Your family spends most of its waking hours in the living room, so you should consider installing dimmable LEDs so you can adjust the amount of light as you see fit. LED Bulbs with a color temperature between 2000K-3000K emit a warm yellowish light ideal for living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms.

Kitchen and bathrooms—You’ll need plenty of task lighting in the kitchen, and LED bulbs with a color temperature between 3100K-4500K emit a bright bluish light that’s ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. Recessed and track lighting are also a great way to add more ambiance or task lighting in areas where it’s inconvenient to plug in lamps!

Outdoors—String lights are a highly affordable way to transform your back porch or patio into an outdoor paradise. Additional front yard lighting discourages prowlers and would-be burglars. And you’ll never have to bring in the groceries in the dark again after you install a motion sensor floodlight over your garage doors!

If you have any questions or would like to schedule service, contact us online or at (501) 375-8330. We offer 24-hour emergency electrical service when disaster strikes, and we’re always happy to give you a quote for a KOHLER emergency generator so you can keep the lights on no matter what Mother Nature has in store for us!
