How to Make an Informed Decision When Choosing an Electrical Contractor
When you’re looking for a commercial or residential electrical contractor, making the right decision may seem a little overwhelming. Central Arkansas is a very competitive area, and there are many quality companies to choose from. How do you make the right choice?
At Gary Houston Electric, we recommend that you always insist on quality work at a fair price. Before you hire someone, make sure to shop around, and do some background research. Here are a few easy steps that you should always take to protect yourself and feel confident about who you hire:
There’s no substitute for experience-The number of years that a contractor has been in business doesn’t tell you everything, but it tells you a lot; they don’t survive for long if they’re not good at what they do. This shouldn’t suggest that contractors who are just getting started in the business can’t do great work, but you can find a lot more information on a company with an established track record.
- Do your homework – Reputable contractors will gladly provide you with references, and you should always call them and ask very specific questions. And don’t forget to check for current licensure and reviews at the Better Business Bureau and/or Angie’s List.
- Get multiple bids – Soliciting multiple bids is standard operating procedure for electrical work, but you should always be concerned by a bid that comes in drastically lower than the others. What corners are they prepared to cut to deliver that bid?
- Trust your instincts – You may not have any formal training in electrical contracting, but your mother didn’t raise a fool. You’ll be inviting this contractor into your home or business, and if you feel pressured, or if they don’t seem trustworthy, remember that you always have the power to take your business elsewhere.
